   There was an old hedge school in Derrygannon, in the Fermanagh side of this parish of Roslea.

   It was taught by a lady called Miss Brown. She lodged in my Granny's house. When my great-granny was young she went to this school. It was behind a hedge.

   In olden times there was a hedge school in the townland of Shanco on the site of which now stands Killeevan Church. There was only one teacher and his name was Master Murphy. There were over one hundred pupils attending it. In the summer time they were taught out in the open and in the winter, they had an old shed. They wrote on slates with slate pencils and they had only on book to read. They
