(continued from previous page)He was told that the owner of the dogs was an old landlord who was dead for years and that every night he appeared at the graveyard gate. His dogs accompanied him.
A policeman in the old R.I.C. had just retired one night when a priest robed for mass came into his room and faced him. The policeman instinctively sat up partly resting on his elbow. The priest caught him by the throat and they tussled for some time.
Presently the priest walked out of the room in the same dignified fashion. Thinking that somebody was playing tricks on him the policeman followed rapidly, to find him nowhere in the barrack, and he could not have left unnoticed as the doors were all fastened. He would have thought it a dream were it not for the scorching sensation in his throat the following morning.
He suffered considerably from nervousness, for three months afterwards.
