  1. About sixty years ago there stood a school in Farranmorgan near Ballina. It was held in a barn belonging to Sean Mullarkey. The teachers name was Martin Dempesy. He was lame and a native of Doeighney Co Mayo.
He taught Irish and English and he taught Irish Catechism also.
The pupils used slates when writing and also for working sums on.
They had no seats but forms. Each pupil used to pay a certain sum of money weekly to the teacher. An old man that went to school there is still living in Knockbrack.
