  1. On St Martin's Eve a fowl is killed and its blood is spilled inside the back door of the kitchen.
    It is said that if this is not done something will be found dead in the house the next morning.
    The blood is spilled in honour of St. Martin who died a martyr for the faith, and whose blood was scattered all over the place where he was put to death
