The bread that was eaten long ago was Boxty Bread, Potato BRead and Oaten meal Bread. The bread was made from wheat and oats grown locally. Querns were used in grinding the oats and wheat. Oaten meal bread was made from oatmeal mixed with water and then it was baked on a griddle before the fire. Potato Bread was made from mashed potatoes mixed with flour and it was then baked in an oven. The people long ago baked enough one day that would last for a week. The sign of the cross was cut on the top of the cake. The bread was baked in a pot oven. Pancakes were made on Shrove Tuesday.
