    O'er lea and meadow and mountain pass.
    As through the valley of fair Glenfarne
    The people wended to midnight mass.

    No bell rang out on that dreary midnight.
    No spire loomed through the snowy haze.
    The rough rugged rock was the only altar
    Our fathers owned in those penal days.
