The marks that are cut in the cake is like a cross. It is to prevent the crust from rising of the cake. The oven was the only thing the cake was made in. The bread was generally baked in the front of the fire and it is done yet. But some people hang it over the fire still. There was no special bread made. Some of the old people. remember the querns. But some of them do not remember the grind stones. Some of the old people say they never saw them and more say they did see them.Some of the people in olden times used to have loaf and more of them used to have boxty bread or oaten-meal bread.
