  1. There was a soup house in this distinct some times ago. It was in the land of Mr. Jackson of Barramore. It was in the town land Gloonyvolla. it was above the Gavamore gate-house on the right hand side of the road going up. The track of it still to be seen. It was built about ninety years ago, the time of the famine. It was the Jackson's that got it built. The land on which it was, now belong to James Browne of Cloughans. It was situated near Lough alick. it was built for giving soup to the poor people during the famine. The people were poor owing to the failure of the potato crop. They were two years without potatoes. The Jacksons gave the Quakers a large bit of land in Carramore for growing vegetables for the
