  1. One of the greatest musicians that ever lived in this district was Paddy Lynott. He was such a great fiddle player that he was called "Lynott the Fiddler." He was born in Lacken. He was not a native of this district but he spent most of his time here. He was blind from his childhood. When he was a baby he fell into the fire. All his fingers were burned off except one finger on his right hand. His face was covered with small pox. He reminded one very much of Rafferty the Poet.
He went about from door to door playing music for a few pence. He used to play all night at the dances for one or two shillings. He carried his fiddle on his back in an old check bag. He was married to a very young girl. He had a little home in Lacken, but he had no means of living except by playing music.
