  1. The churns long ago were round shaped, ones like a barrel, about 3 feet high. They were wider at the bottom than at the top. They were made by skilful men called Coopers. These churns were made of oak.
    There is a round lid on top, and a dash called a churn dash. There is a round hole on the lid, and the churn dash is put through it, and worked up and down in the milk.
    The dash has a long handle with a nice round board, with 4 or 5 holes in it. We draw the dash up and down, and we continue that until the butter comes on it.
    Long ago they used to have many pisroges concerning butter. If a man came in lighting a pipe they wouldn't let him out until butter would come an the milk. If a person came in while a churning was making, he'd
