    also reared on boxty bread and potato-cake. Boxty bread was made by scraping the potato to a pulp, and it was then baked in a pan. Potato-cake is usually make on Hallowe'en by mixing mashed potatoes and also being baked in a pan.
    People were accustomed to go to bed early in order to leave the hearth for the "good people", to visit. The table was situated opposite the window.
    Noggins and mugs were in use before cups came into fashion.
