  1. Some years ago, queer things happened in this locality. Not far from here, there lived a man, who had the misfortune, of having his cows visited by some evil spirit, in the form of a hare. No matter if he churned the milk from morning till night, no butter would come on it. So he decided to send his cows to a friend's farm, a few miles away, to see would there come any change. Before sending them away, he was told by a wise old woman, that the hare would follow. She was right, for follow them she did. Driven to despair he and his friends held a consultation to see what was best to do. They decided to consult a man who lived near Oldcastle. He told them to rise next morning before sunrise, and arm themselves with guns charged with silver, and that, they would see
