    Matches were played on Thomas’s hill between Kilinkere and Knockbride. Knockbride and Kilinkere were the two teams that played. There were 23 players on each side. The best men were picked out of the parish. Sometimes parishes or townlands played. The two teams nearly always drew. The score was 11 goals to 11 goals. The ball was kicked from field to field, to where the match was. One time during a match the ball went over the ditch and the players followed it and finished the game in another field. The players were dressed with clogs, shirt, and long trousers. Hay balls were mostly used. The football was made out of a hay rope. It was about half the size of the
