   In olden times people used to perform cures with all classes of herbs:

   Stye on the eye.
   Gooseberry thorns were used for curing a swollen eye. They called it the stye on the eye, by taking nine thorns of a gooseberry bush, and pointing each thorn at the eye, and while doing so would say some words, which I am unable to procure.

   For a sore throat.
   Put roasted potatoes on your stocking, and tie it round your neck going to bed at night.

   Sprain foot:
   Hold it under a fall of cold water, such as a spout.

   A swollen udder:
   For a cow with a swollen udder, rub it well, and while doing so, say It might come from the sun, it might come from the moon, it might come from the earth, unto the earth it shall return.
