- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)five minutes walk from Ardfinnan N- School- he won a first prize of two pounds ten shillings , and also a special prize of a silver- mounted horse- shoe inkstand, presented by Colonel Charters of Cahir Park, Cahir, Co Tipperary. There is a history attached to the horse shoe,- it was worn by the Colonel's horse named '' Ballyheron'' when he won the Irish Derby in 1921.
In the same year (1935) at Lisronagh near Clonmel , my brother won a first prize of £3, and a horse shoe value five pounds which was presented by Messrs Pierce &Co., Wexford.He also won a Suitcase for the best furrow; and a box of cigarettes for the youngest ploughman.- Bailitheoir
