Place names beginning with the word '' Bally''- Baile= a town.- are peculiar to this district.
The following are places which are within a radius of three or four miles from Ardfinnan; - some are the names of townsland, some parishes, and some of villages. Ballybacon, Ballyneety Ballydrennan, Ballygorman, Ballyhickey, Ballyhist, Ballylaffin, Ballyvodock, Ballydoney.
Ballybacon is the name of one of our parishes, there is a fine Church in it, and also Schools belonging to our Parish Priest. Ballygorman is a district or townsland adjoining the village of Ardfinnan.
In Ballydoney - about three miles from us, there is the remains of an old Norman tower.
