  2. Time for Sowing Crops. Onions should be sown on the shortest day of the year and should be pulled on the longest day of the year. Parsnips are sown about a week before the onions. Mangolds are sown between the 8th and 20th of May.
    Old March. There is an old story connected with old March. The story relates to a cow that the month of March was trying to kill, but it could not kill her and March had to borrow 11 days from April to kill the cow. The first 11 days of April is called old March.
    November Eve. On November Eve the púcka is supposed to be out and anybody that goes out are said to be set astray by the Púcka.
    St. Matthew's Day. If it is wet on St Matthew's day it will rain for thirty days after it.
