Patrick Sullivan West Banteer, known locally as "Patsy the Gardener" , was a very good athleter, 440 x 100 yards
Con Murphy, Curragh, Bnteer, was a great hornpipe dancer
Pat Riordan, Kilconey, Banteer, better known as "Pad the Smith", was another famous dancer. Years ago in a dancing competition at the Banteer Sports between Owen McAuliffe, Co Murphy and this Pat Riordan, the latter was awarded first prize and a gold watch.
Edmond Bennett, Millstreet, Co. COrk was a dancing master. He would hold classes in the schools and in the farmers' houses.

Mick Aherne West Banteer was champion weight thrower and used to throw 1/2 cwt. 26 feet.
