  1. Holy Wells
    Lady's Well is situated in a field about a mile from the village. As it is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, people visit it on her feast days - on March 25th, during the month of May, on August 15th, September 8th, and December 8th. When they visit the well, they do the rounds which are made getting seven small stones from a stream which runs near the well; they walk around a hedge, which surrounds the well, seven times, and each time they throw a stone into the stream, and they say the Pater, Ave, and Gloria seven time. There is also a cement wall around the well, and the "rounds" are also made around it.
    Long ago when the monks lived in the Abbey, there was an hospital at Spittle, about a mile south-west of the village, and in this hospital, lepers were cared - for by the monks. One misty evening one of the monks was returning from the hospital
