Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The birds found in this district are robins, wrens, thrushes, black-birds, crows pigeons, magpies water-hens, wild-ducks, swans and ball-coots.
    Backbirds build in bushes-their nest is made of roots and clay lined with hair or feathers the eggs are blue and spotted with red. The robin builds in a mossy bank and the nest is made of moss and lined with hair, the eggs are spotted. The crow builds her nest of sticks in the tops of tall trees.
    Magpies and pigeons build in thick bushes.
    Water-hens build in bogs at the edge of drains.
    Ball-coots build beside a lake, the nest is made of reeds and grass.
    When the robins are chirping low in the bushes it is a sign of bad weather.
    There is a story of how teh robin got his red breast. It is said that when our Saviour was dying the robin plucked a thorn from his brow and a drop of blood fell on his breast.
