    The churns that were used long ago were churns with a dash. In modern times the churns coming into use are much different to those that were used in the olden times. In this locality churns with a dash are still used. How the people made a churning long ago was as follows : - They used to put the new milk into a small tub called a "cílear" and leave it there for a few days until it would be thick. Then they would scrub the churn with a brush made of heather. The milk was then put into the churn. How they made the churning was by working the dash up and down. If any person happened to come in while the churning was in progress he would have to take the dash
