People in the district were very careful about minding their butter from fairies. They believed that certain precautions had to be taken when they would have a churning. If not, they firmly believed that they would not get any butter from the cream. If you entered a house while a churning was in progress, you were expected to give a hand, at least for a short time. If you did not offer to take the churn dash, the people of the house would not let you go without doing so.
