    Rowe now lives, the children who attended sat on rough boards placed on stones, they used sheets of paper and slates which were taken from a local quarry to write on, as copy books were not in use.
    Irish was the principal language, but a little English, Grammer, History and geography were also taught, the teacher was paid one shilling and sixpence every two months by every child.
    In the summer the children were taken out alonside ditches or in under trees, to protect the rays of the sun from their eyes.
    The teacher held classes at night for boys who were working during the day.
    Another "Hedge school" was taught by a Mr. Duffy in a thatched barn, in the low lying part of the townland of Drutamon, now part of Mr. Thomas Allen's farm, and another on the southern side of "Grahawaddy hill" in the townland of Carnalynch, the teacher was a man named Mr. James Dunne a native of
