  1. The bread was made at home in olden times, there were some bakers but not as many as in the present day.
    The old people made bread from oaten meal from the oats which grew on their own farms.
    In making the oat cake, they put salt in the meal and kneded it with hot water, rolled it out about half an inch thick, and baked it before a turf fire, they had a bread iorn for this purpose, it was made round on the top with a shelf at the bottom to leave the cake standing on, and an iorn at the back with two prongs to keep it from falling.
