    Seventy years ago it was a custom on the day of the wedding, for a number of men riding on horses to meet outside the church and start a race to the home of the husband.
    It was an exciting event, the winner was rewarded with a quart bottle of whiskey, and permission to kiss the bride, this race was known as "Running for the bottle."
    In those days the bride and groom often rode home from the church on a horse, nowadays the motor-car provides a more congenial wedding journey.
