  1. The boys in olden times made bows and arrows from sally sticks which they shot birds with.
    They made pipes out of horse-chestnuts and a piece of a stick, which they made a hole in to form the shank.
    They made tops from spools, they cut one end of the spool and ran a pointed stick through it.
    They made guns from branches of elderberry trees but they could not fire a shot out of them.
