  1. There were formerly four churches in the barony of Delvin, namely, Crowinstown, Kiloolagh, Killough and Killedoran. Delvin was anceintly called "Great Delvin" which belonged to the O'Fenelons who formerly came there after the Norman invasion.
Delvin was one of the chief towns of Meath and for many years it was one of the principal fortresses in the English Pale. Where the parish Church of Crowinstown once stood there is not a stone now to be seen. An old cemetery is there where some old families in the neighbourhood still claim as their last resting place. There was an important old Catholic Church opposite my home in Delvin which has been uprooted long ago and a Protestant church built on the stie. In this church-yard sleep many members of the Delvin family who died in the Catholic faith. Another old parish called Killkenna long since dilapidated and latterly deserted as a place of burial.
