- Delvin castle is situated about two miles from my home. It was very prominent in history in days gone by. When Cromwell was on a tour of destruction in Ireland, he sent a message from Kinnegad which is some miles from Delvin, ordering the owner of Delvin castle to surrender the castle to Cromwell. The owner of the castle told Cromwell he could have the castle. But when Cromwell arrived in Delvin, instead of the beautiful mansion he had expected to see, he found but the smouldering ruins. The owner of the castle sooner than let Cromwell stay in the castle he had set fire to his beautiful residence. Some years later the castle was rebuilt, but it was burnt again. Nothing remains of this once beautiful mansion but the walls. Celine Bezzanno, Bracklyn
