   Soothing the sorrowing, sad hearts of men – Prayerful and pitiful Rising like incense – Floating all Heaven-ward through the still air; I sing of the Bells – Bright, blessed and beautiful, The sweet Convent Bells – the Bells of Kenmare. II Hear them at eventide, Down by the river-side Ringing through gorges – rough, splintered and wild, Rolling their liquid notes Free from their brazen throats. Hymning of Heaven to parent and child. Erect stand the mountain deer, When the soft sound they hear. Flushed are the notes of the throstle, so rare, As he lists to the chiming, And mystical rhyming Of the Bells bright and blessed – the Bells of Kenmare. J. C. Deady
