  1. Clonmeen Castle, Banteer, Co. Cork situated in the Barony of Duhallow was built on the south bank of the Blackwater on the Grehan Estate, Clonmeen. There are several old legends connected with this castle and one is the there is hidden gold in the Castle grounds.
Some people in the district had a dream that the gold was hidden under the old tower at the southern side of the Castle. On the following night they proceeded to the place and about midnight started to dig for the treasure with the aid of lighted candles.
They were digging for about an hour when an enormous bull with tongues of fire hanging out of his mouth made an attack on them. The animal's mouth seemed to open back to his ears.
It is said that the gold seekers got such a shock that they were unable to get out of bed for a considerable time and both their mouths were twisted to their ears. Ever since nobody has dared to seek for this hidden gold.
