  1. There aren't many forges in the parish.
    John Smith Derryham is the smith and his father and his grandfather were smiths. The forge is situated in Derryham beside the cross road and a river.
    It is a small slated forge and it is square shaped. There is only one fireplace in it. The bellows is made of leather. The smith uses a sledge, a hammer, a bellows, an anvil, a vice and some iron. He shoes all the [?] horses of the townland and he makes ploughs, harrows and all farm implements.
    He puts shoeings on carts on the street. They are looked upon as being very strong.
    The farmers go to the forge at night for all the news. People go to the forge to learn
