    unlucky to interfere with them or to cut bushes in them. In the year 1879 a man named Matthew Tully, who lived in the townland of Lavey cut bushes in McDonald's fort. After doing so he got an attack of severe pains in his bones and joints and suffered severely from them for the remainder of his life.
    People plant trees in them, considering that by doing this they enlist the sympathy of the fairies.
    It is said that several old people saw fairies in them and saw them dancing and playing music. Old Mary Cullivan, who lived in an old house on Mr John Cusack's farm, heard music in them and saw fairies. Mr John Murray Lavey, Stradone often saw the fairies going from one fort to another, and saw them dancing and playing music.
