  1. The local fairs are held in Tullow and Carlow. They are the principal ones in the County. They are always held in the town. They are not held in the street in Tullow they are held in the fair green. In Carlow they are held in a field. When a animal is sold luck money is always given. When a bargain is made the buyer and seller strike their hands together. In order to know the beast is sold the buyer clips a bit of hair off and at other times marks them on the back. The halter is always kept when the animal is sold. There is a special fair held in Carlow each month for sheep, Bonhams and horses.
