Others say that the sty should not be pricked with the thorn but that the thorn should be pointed towards the sty through a gold ring.Una Roberts, Carrigduff, Bunclody
- The Caileach's Bit
The Caileach's Bit is the piece of meat with which the old people fried the pancakes on Shrove Tuesday night. It is hung up on a certain nail and it is kept and used to cure all sorts of diseases during the year. If a person has a sore they should rub it with the "Caileach's Bit" and it would go away.People of this district do not eat meat on St. Stephen's day, because they say it preserves them from sickness during the year.Elizabeth Kavanagh, Gurteen.
