    When it is well harrowed, the drills are marked out. In low lying or damp land the land is scored instead of ploughed.
    The scoring as it is called is done by means of a wooden spade or loy as it is called pointed with steel.
    The ridges are made about the same width as ploughed ridges that is from 3 to 3 1/2 feet wide. Instead of six scrapes as in he ploughed ridge there are only two scrapes in a scored ridge one on each side of it. The centre been green
    The farmer inserts the loy in the earth and turns over a sod about four inches wide. The manure is placed on these scored ridges early in the year to allow it to penetrate into the green earth and this is covered with earth.
    Early in Spring the farmer gets a round thick wooden stick called a Skeevin and makes three holes across the width of the ridge. Into each hole a split is dropped and covered with earth this is called gaggering the potatoes.
