- One night as John Quinn of the townland of Ballagh and parish of Clongesh was returning to his home from a visit at a neighbour's house at about 11 o'clock p.m., he saw the ghost of his uncle, on the railway line about one and a half miles to the west of the village of Newtownforbes.
He had crossed the railway line at this same place often before but had never seen anything strange. It was a short cut between New Row and Kilmacannon on one side and Ballagh on the other.
He was very much frightened at first; but his fears soon evaporated when he found that the apparition did not follow him, or in any way interfere with him.
He thought over it that night, and related the story to his people the next morning. They(continues on next page)
