  1. I often heard my father say that in the Famine year there came a man to his house looking for something to eat. My Grandfather gave him some porrage and milk in a (Nog) noggon and spoon. The man ate so much that when he went down the road he fell dead. The famine did effect the district much. The district was very thickely populated in the year before the famine. The people still point out ruins in their fields Some say it was an incect that disteroyed the potatoes in the Famine.
