   tolls were paid in every town. Some years ago the tolls were only from three pence to six pence, but they are from six pence to a shilling nowadays. When the seller has been paid for the cattle he gives the buyer some money which is called the "luckpenny" which is from a shilling for a small calf to a half-a-crown for a big bullock.

   The fairs used to be held long ago in the villages and towns. My Uncle told me that fairs were more numerous some time ago than they are now.
   In the village in which I live there were four fairs held every year. The first fair was
