  1. It is an old saying that the hen that will lay outside wont lay inside. My mother told me that if round eggs were hatched the chickens would be all pullets, and if long eggs were hatched the chickens would be all cocks. My Mother also told me that thunder would kill birds in eggs and to prevent this a piece of iron is left beside the nest.
