  1. Friday is considered a lucky day to begin work such as ploughing and house-building. Tuesday is an unlucky day for starting to plough or to dig a grave.
    I was told the following incident happened in this district. A man named Major Diamond went out to sow oats on Lady Day. The first handful he pegged blew back into his face and grains went into his face and blinded him. From that until he died he never regained sight.
    Pancake night is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and on that night people feast on pancakes.
