- In former times buying and selling was carried out mostly in the local towns. The people went to town to sell eggs, butter, hens, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks and cattle. Now these things can be sold at home but people still bring to the fair their cattle and sheep. The seller of the animal usually gives a small bit of money to the buyer. This is called the luck penny. Long ago when the people were poor the young people stole potatoes and sold them to get tobacco. A huxtery is a shop which very few things are sold in. The person who owns the shop is called a huxter.
