- There was once a school on the middle of the hill of Tully. It was on the left-hand side of the hill of Tully as you travel from the Pigeons to Kilkenny West. This school is now used as a barn and is situated on the side of the road on Patrick Molloy's land. It is supposed Oliver Goldsmith the famous poet received his early education in this school. The school house is thirty-two feet long and fifteen feet broad. There was a door on the end of it about six feet high and three feet broad. There was also a window on the back about three feet high and one foot wide. There was a fire place and a small chimney in the end opposite the door. All the old people of Lissoy and Tully were taught Irish and English reading and writing and surveying by Mr. Nearney who lived in Patrick Molloy's and taught in this school.
