home and dug under a white thorn bush and found the gold.
One time a rich King sold all his property. He got a steel chest and filled it with Gold and tied a chain to it. Then he threw it into a lake in Mount Callan after having securely fastened the chain to a rock. His dying wish was to be buried on the shore of the lake. The story was handed down from generation to generation until the summer of 1815. The young men of Reinskiheen Gleann and Reinagisha Slievelahun gathered together to drain the lake. They set to work to open mire the near the lake until they came within a hundred yards of it. Suddenly a great monster arose and threw water up hundreds of feet high. The men nearby who set to work first were saved but the men further up the stream were drowned. The mountain echoed and re-echoed from the loud scream of the big monster. The cattle and sheep in the locality ran wild with terror. From that day to this no attempt was made to look for the Gold.
