  1. The “shoeing” of wheels and the repairing of machinery are done in the open air in front of the forge.
    Some smiths were supposed to possess certain cures. The previous owner of this forge “Mr Cunningham” R.I.P. had a cure for “rickets” in children and the smith in a neighbouring forge had a cure for “Farcy” in horses. Many people still believe that Forge water is a cure for warts and corns.
    Formerly farmers sent gifts such as butter,eggs and new potatoes to the smith. The forge was and is still a great centre for story telling. The local forge was an important place during the late “Black and Tan War” It became a centre for the dilivery of dispatches and revolvers and rifles were also put in a state of repair here. The local smith was a great friend to the boys on the run and many a good turn he did for them.
