When the sun went down a red body in the west when evening came, it was the sign of rain. When the stars glittered in the sky at night it was the sign of frost. When the waters in the lake or in any pool looked a grey or muddy colour it was the sign of rain also. In the winter time when the crows and seagulls were seen hovering over the hills at evening it was the sign of rain. Also when the suet fell from the chimney of the houses it was the sign of rain.
