me she was well acquainted with this rhyme when a little girl but the last line of her version differed, as may be seen below, with the version supplied by Mce. Devaney, thus:
    I'll buy boots for you
    That'll make shoes for you
(An ) dtiocfaidh tú abhaile liom?
Mrs Daly's opinion of the Rann is that various offers made in the verses were those of a lover to his beloved, and in each case, followed the request to her. The Irish line in the first two verses is, I think, obviously incorrect.
    From Mrs. Daly also:
The big one followed the little one
The little one followed the leader
    'Gus amach leo(bh)tha.
and also the following, from her father who died some 30 years ago at the age of 82: (Quill ab' ainm do)
( The Ryme of a street vendor in Cork. Where no is any of the "Cries of London? ! )
Ar chuala tú tracht ar Frank Shine
    A tháínig ag tionnlacain Grimes
ó Caisleán na Mainge go Corcaigh an Ghleanna
Is é ag marcaidheacht ar ghearráinín
    beag gághach gan radharc?
An' wud ye buy fresh mutton pies?

Mrs Quill was master in Ballygran, Charleville and his son succeeded him there. It is highly probable that in his collection of Béaloideas the Rann above will be found; I included it here however for safety's sake as I think it a good indication of the conflict between the two languages 80 to 100 years ago.
