   Wherever the elder grows, there be sure at some time was a human habitation. The old people had some superstition about it and wanted it about their house. They never burned it, I don't know why. The reason why they did not burn it was because it would if burned, give everyone in the house a headache.

   They were very fond of hunting (with greyhounds) in Croom long-ago. They had to give up the greyhounds then because it was a crime to keep them. They took to beagles instead. There was one man however who lived somewhere about Chlorane (Manister parish) and he kept two greyhounds on the sly. They (the authorities or the local gentry) knew he had them and made up their minds that he should put them way He knew he'd have to do away with them in the long run but he said he'd keep them, in spite of everything until he'd kill a certain hare that he had often met and that had as often eluded himself and his dogs. One fine morning when his two hounds were in fine form, he set out
