  2. One night there was a poor scholar in a certain house and while he was there the woman of the house gave birth to a baby boy. The poor scholar wrote a note and put it into a locket and hung it around the baby's neck. He gave instructions that the boy was not to open the locket, nor any body else either, until he was twenty-five years of age. What he wrote on The note which he put into the locket was that the boy would be hanged. When the boy grew up to be nearly a young man he went to a work in a gentleman's place. This gentleman was a poor scholar. The other servants in the place did not like the new-
