- A Tradition.
In this locality, Glin, a crab tree 1,600 years old grows in O'Shaughnessy's farm, Clogough. The bare trunk stands there now like a sentinel. Long ago there was an old fort near the spot. The fortification was attacked by the Danes, because they had heard of a buried treasure of gold.Three men were picked out to carry the gold to a place of safety. Taking the crab tree for their mark, they buried the gold beneath it.Local people tried to get the gold, but were always prevented by something in the shape of a cock.
