In the beginning of the ninteenth century the principal food of the people was potatoes and milk. They were eaten three times a day - in the morning, at midday, and in the evening. During the famine when the potatoes had failed a certain meal called Indian meal was eaten. It was boiled in a pot with some water and salt in it.
